Celine's Tar-ific New Collection

By Karl Treacy
Fashion Wire Daily Paris - Taking as its unlikely inspiration the streets of Paris -- as in literally, the streets -- Celine has come up with a small accessories collection called Paris Macadam, as in tarmacadam.

The French luxury goods house has reinterpreted the image of Paris' streets with a collection in dark denim canvas, woven with a pattern of the house's distinctive insignia, and produced a fun and chic look perfect for pavement-posing and people-watching at the Cafe de Flore.

The collection was presented Wednesday in the trendy but traditional eatery La Palette in Paris' Saint-Germain-des-Pres area. After working their way through delicious plates of pear tarte, the press pack was amused to see female models presenting the new products accompanied by bulky-chested body builders in skimpy outfits that left little to the imagination.

On a more sartorial note, the tight waistcoats worn by Parisian waiters have inspired the new collection's leather-trimmed, fitted gilet with six slit pockets (425 euros). 'Les garcons' have also seen their money pouches ("bourses") transformed into a brown leather buckled belt with two monogram canvas pockets attached (310 euros).

When it comes to bags, the collection is offering three options: a shopping tote (310 euros), a crossover shoulder bag (430 euros), and a cute, flap-front shoulder bag called Le Poulbot, which translates as 'the urchin.'

Catching a more '70s vibe, there's also a floppy cap (120 euros) and wooden-soled mules (225 euros) to make the Seine-side streets sing.

The Paris Macadam collection will be available in Celine boutiques worldwide from April.
